Camping: The Third Time's A Charm

Chris conned me into camping again.

This time he was able (through the generosity of family and friends) to provide a boat and camper for our memory making experience. I have to admit the boat and camper were awesome additions. Thanks Tripps and Woolfs!!!

This time, though, instead of only staying one night we stayed three. THREE. Three nights at a campground. Public restrooms and shower houses. No running water at the campsite. BUT...no worries because we had a boat and a camper.

Good Times Good Times Good Times Good Times

Highlights:

-For some strange reason we felt that it was a great idea to bring Greta. We're so stupid!

-For most of the trip the boys were either playing their DS games or asking to play them...The benefits of an electric camp site.

-Two days in a row the water was shut off at the campground for a little while due to a water main brake. They even locked the bathrooms!!!

-By the end of the first day I was ready for civilization. We went out to dinner.

-It's amazing how cold it gets at night no matter how hot the days are.

-This last one is for Chris: We cooked hot dogs (nasty) over the campfire the first night we were there. For some odd reason all four of our hot dogs landed in the fire. I almost screamed. Or choked someone (did I just type that?) By the end of our roasting experience everyone had eaten their fill with one hot dog remaining. Chris decided it would be a wonderful idea to strategically place the hot dog in the tree to non-verbally invite a visitor to our campsite during the night. I truly think he was mocking my prior experience with uninvited guests. In the morning he found that we had, in fact, been visited and the hot dog was gone. Super.

I'm sure there is lots more that I could complain about but I'm sure Chris has heard enough. Poor guy! Tries to do something nice for the fam but ends up enduring criticism and complaining. I am thankful he took time out of his schedule to purposefully spend time with us. It was nice to get away. I enjoyed boating and the s'mores (YUM.)

Maybe next time I'll get my beach house...

If any of you missed the previous posts about camping, please feel free to read them. I'm not sure how to hyperlink. Anyone have any suggestions?

More T-Ball...

Jonathan played catcher this past Saturday and I just wanted to add these pictures to the T-ball montage. It was fun to see him in the gear. I love it!

Who is that good looking guy standing next to Jonathan???

Fun-Tastic

Because I teach I am bombarded almost weekly by fundraisers. Choir, baseball, band, the Junior class, mathletes (OK, I made that one up,) etc. My teacher's union also is constantly bombarding me for money to fund a scholarship or some other worthwhile cause. I am made to feel as though MY purchase will make or break the success of the fundraiser. Really? I don't get paid enough to donate so much back into the school. UH! I believe that next year (If I have a job) I will take a stand:

Zero tolerance for fundraiser participation... Just say no to fundraisers...

Do you think I am being selfish? Should I freely support anything that comes my way? I just don't think so.

OK, so back to the reason for this post. I caved last fall and bought some cookie dough from a fundraiser. Last week I decided to bust out the cookie dough (from the freezer) in an effort to be a cool mom, always providing awesome summer memories for the boys. We had a great time designing the cookies and making a mess (deep breath...let it go...clean it up later...deep breath...)

Once cooked they were edible but not my favorite. It's been about a week since we made the cookies and most of them are still on the counter in a freezer bag. Hmm. Maybe it was the experience that the boys enjoyed not the cookies themselves...

Birthday Week

The first week of June is home to four birthdays in our extended family. My birthday is June 3rd, my brother-in-law's birthday is June 4th, Drew's birthday is June 7th, and so is my father-in-law's.

Whew!

Normally we only get together to celebrate Drew's birthday and this year was no different. Although the cake was made for Drew (shout out to Andrea for the Ben...I mean Drew 10 themed cake) there were cards for all the birthday boys and girl.

But I'm getting ahead of myself...

Because Drew's birthday was on a Sunday this year, we headed to church in the morning then went to Pizza Hut for lunch (at Drew's request.)

For the current month, First Friends posts the names of each child and their birthday. We found Drew's right away.

Our families came over that afternoon for cake and ice cream while Drew opened his presents.

After the party we grabbed a bite to eat with my family then the four of us headed to see the movie 'Up' in 3-D. It was highly entertaining!

Happy Birthday Drew!

I also have to tell you that Andrea made my birthday 'cake' as well. I requested a carrot cake cheesecake (Like The Cheesecake Factory's Crazy Craig's Carrot Cake Cheesecake.) Although it did not turn out exactly like it's predecessor, Andrea's version was scrumptious!
